A Voice on the Job
A Union means a voice in the workplace. In large part because you have a negotiated contract. Use of your annual leave, sick leave, working conditions and grievance procedures are just some of the things guaranteed in your contract. When your legal rights are violated, it’s the union that works on your behalf to correct the situation. Sometimes resolution comes in the form of a discussion with management. Other times it’s necessary to file a grievance or see through the steps to arbitration. The bottom line is your union stands with you to prevent bullying and retaliation.

An Advocate On Capitol Hill
As Federal employees, Congress legislates a lot about our work environment. From our salaries and pensions to budgets and Reductions in Force (RIF), elected representatives make the decisions that dictate our quality of life. NFFE-IAM is fighting on behalf of our members for:
• Better pay
• Safer working conditions
• Job security
• Better health insurance
• Parental leave

Job Protections
NFFE-IAM members have what’s known as Weingarten Rights. This is the right to have union representation at investigatory interviews. This is critical in ensuring our members are not subject to unjust treatment from management.

Exclusive Member Benefits
NFFE-IAM members have access to a number of member-only benefits. These include:
• Mortgage financing through Union Plus
• Discounted auto insurance
• Union Plus travel benefits
• Discounted legal services related to workers’ compensation
• Discounted vision and dental insurance plans

Free College & Other Educational Opportunities
Yeah, as in FREE. Dues paying members of NFFE-IAM and their families have access to a free online 2-year degree from Eastern Gateway College. Degree tracks include business management, early childhood education, accounting, criminal justice and more. Learn more here. NFFE-IAM members also have the opportunity to attend trainings at the union’s education facility. Classes range from leadership curriculums to trainings specifically geared to Federal Employee issues. There’s also an agreement with Empire State College and the State Universities of New York to offer union members classes accredited towards Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees. There is no other union with such a program.
